10th Grade Career Day
For my Career Day I was able to go to two places to shadow different professionals. For the first half of the day I was able to shadow one of my past teachers who teaches a multi-grade classroom. The second half of the day was spent at a Scripps Primary Care, there I interviewed a Nurse practitioner.
At the school during the morning, I observed the classroom and had one-on-one tutoring with the students. What I noticed was that because it was a multi-grade classroom, it always felt busy and productive in the classroom. For example, whenever the teacher was teaching one grade in math, the other grades had their own work time/study hall. It gave that feeling of "busyness" throughout the classroom.
I left the school at 11:30 and met the Nurse Practitioner at 12:00. I was able to spend around 2 1/2 hours with her. The first half of our meeting, I was asking her questions and interviewing her. The main questions I asked revolved around the education required to become a Nurse Practitioner and the tasks and responsibilities her position has. However, my favorite question that she answered was, "How is your job fulfilling and what do you enjoy most about you job?" She answered that she loved working with patients, collaborating with the staff at the primary care, and making diagnoses on patients. Being a Nurse Practitioner is a fulfilling job because she gets to help people and she gets to make a difference in people's lives. Hearing tings likes this makes me want to become a Nurse Practitioner, because I'm really interested in helping people and feeling like I've made an impact on someone's life, making a difference.
