What do immigrant populations look like in Latin America?
- In Latin America, for immigrants in Latin America it is more difficult to immigrate between Latin American countries than to immigrate to the United States. The main reason for immigrating in Latin America is usually economical. Emigrants that search for better opportunities in other countries usually don't end up going far because of the economic and social differences between countries. Mexico takes in Guatemalans, Costa Rica takes in Nicaraguans, Colombians go to Venezuela and Ecuador, and Bolivians and Paraguayans to Argentina, Brazil, and Chile. Countries that are aware of the continent's constant flow of immigration do take action in order to facilitate it. Argentina, a receiver of many immigrants, made an agreement with Bolivia and Peru in the early 2000's to facilitate migration.
- The two main languages spoken in Latin America are Spanish and Portuguese. The most common languages spoken in Latin America are Spanish, Portuguese, English, French, and Dutch. Other languages such Aymara and Quechua are both official languages in Paraguay and Bolivia. The majority of people do not speak English but do speak Spanish which can make it difficult for tourists to travel through and communicate to get round.
